Online learning modules

The following modules were developed in 2019 during the early stage of this disease spread in New Zealand to support people to understand and manage myrtle rust. The content remains broadly accurate, however our knowledge about vulnerable/ susceptible species in New Zealand has increased.

Myrtle rust - it's here to stay

This video talks about myrtle rust and its recent history in New Zealand, then takes you through what you can expect from these learning materials.

Scientific definition of myrtle rust

This video talks about the myrtle rust fungus, the way it moves from plant to plant, and how it may impact plant health. It also goes into what favourable conditions for the fungus look like and some of the species susceptible to infection.

The spread of myrtle rust

Myrtle rust research

Karin van der Walt walks us through the myrtle rust research programme.

Identifying the scale of the impact of myrtle rust

This video talks about the 1 through 4 scale used to measure myrtle rust impact.

Myrtle rust recap

This video provides a brief overview of the previous course and defines the scientific definition of myrtle rust and how it has spread over time.
